I know I've been too busy to get in a PBEM game in quite a while (I'm almost done my degree, and would love to pick up a game or 3 come summertime). But I do poke my head in here every once in a while. Is anyone else still active on this board?
I see janus make an occasional post about his fascinating variants.
Imperious Leader has a few responses.
What about everyone else? Whatever happened to boromir, jwlbigdog, mrstimpy, richy and the others?

I also noticed that wargamersclub.org appears to be empty. There are almost no posts on the boards there in nearly a year. Have those people all migrated to another server?

On another note, are we likely to ever get face-to-face versions of The Great War? I have a few friends that I would love to introduce the game to (that would be disinclined to play via email), and if the PBEM community here has largely faded, it would be nice to have alternatives.

As you noted Imperious Leader is around.

Haven't heard from my old SQUARES partner Boromir.

Well, I have been working fulltime nights pretty consistently for about a year now.
Additionally, I don't have a computer of my own. So I am usually only around the forums when I am at my dad's place to do laundry, or when I have a day off and my roommate is working. BTW his girlfriend moved out of our apartment unexpectedly a couple weeks ago, and back to the small town where her mother lives, about 100km away.
I am presently in the midst of looking at changing jobs, AND getting my first car, AND buying a condo or townhouse with my sister.

You may be interested to know I am a also member of my local Guardian Angels chapter, so I patrol with them twice a week (work permitting). So as you can imagine, I am a pretty busy fellow these days. I mostly lurk when I am on here, to see if there is any feedback on my scenario.

My nefarious partner is crime dropped out of university for the 2nd time maybe... half a year ago? Around that time he also walked away from the job he had held for about 5 or 6 years.
He has since gotten a new job, but spends all his free time playing World of Warcraft, to the point where he does not answer his cell or house phone.
We literally have to just show up unannounced to get him to hang out anymore, and even then we usually end up waiting an hour for the raid to fail/finish.

um, yeah? I think that about covers it for me. Anyone else still lurking around?

So. Two more years have gone by. Is Imp Games still in operation? In case anyone is interested, I finally completed my PhD and now have a 1 year old son and another son on the way. As far as gaming goes, I found a couple sites online that work pretty well:

This is an A&A - style site. Most of the units are there in some form, and they have both the old A&A map and a couple of different maps. Game options include A&A-style play, and up to 12 players either in free-for-all, or on set teams. It's a pretty interesting site. I go by the name "docbrown" over there if anyone happens to see this.

This one is more of a Risk-style gaming site. They have some 130+ maps with a wide variety of game options. They also do a good job of policing cheating and abuse and have a fairly active community with well-run forums. I go by "doc_brown" over there.

If anyone happens to run across this and wants to game with me again sometime, look me up on either site!

Hey JerBear,

I actually picked up East & West again recently, only to find I had misplaced my rulebook. I was, in fact, able to order a new one from ImpGames. I actually emailed Imp a compilation of house rules recently, as he said he would like to take a look at them. So yes, they do seem to still be in operation.

In April 2008 I bought a condo with my sister, and in July of that year I got a clerical job in the office my mom works in. I was laid off in January of 2009 during the start of the recession, and went back to my old job. After a bit more bouncing around, I quit the company (again) this past September and I am currently working in loss prevention. Arresting people is cool.

I am still keeping up with Guardian Angels, but only once a week or less. The chapter in my city is pretty small, and a lot of our members have had health problems and personal or business setbacks.

My nefarious partner in crime got engaged this past year to a girl he met through World of Warcraft. Shock! Anywho, they're due to get married sometime in 2011.

Generally, I'm just sorta putzing my way through life. I like to play Dungeons&Dragons whenever my group can get together; usually, once every 3-6 weeks for a Saturday.

Anywho, if you're interested in some fun house rules for East&West that can use a little playtesting, hit me up with an email:

P.S.
I do lurk here every week or so. I got a nice new netbook for Christmas, but I don't have a dedicated internet connection at home, so I'm just sorta spounging signals where I can.
I'd love to get some PBeM going, but re-registering MapView everytime you get a new computer or reformat is probably as big a nuisance to Imp as it is to us players.

I have a couple game and scenario ideas I'd like some outside input/testing on to help round things out, so let me know if anyone is interested.

I've been kinda thinking I would like to do some Text PBeM East & West.
As I said, I have a bunch of house rules I would like to test and play-balance.
Does anyone know of an operational, passable dice server that could be used for East & West?

I just looked through my old game logs and the only one I kept was from my game vs. jwlbigdog
Does anyone have valid email addresses for Stimpy or any other old forum lurkers?

To answer my own question, check out this website:
http://frood.net/aacalc/2.0/

This is an excellent resource, as it can be used as an odds calculator AND a dice server. I used this for the game I recently posted on the Game Posts section of these forums, to great effect. Smile
http://impgames.tiki-1.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=469

The really important function of this dice roller is that you can set it to use original A&A, A&A Revised, or A&A Europe attack/defense values (i.e. a tank that defends on a 3 can be used for a Heavy Tank) so you can improvise most combat situations that you would encounter in E&W.
The only thing I had trouble with representing was cruiser bombardments; for regular naval attacks by cruisers, I tend to roll them as a Carrier, and manually adjust it if they roll a 2. Rare in most E&W game, but it happens.
Anyways, just takes a little creativity Smile

That said, I do have MapView up and operational now, so I would be willing/able to do a MV PBeM game of E&W instead of text, if anyone is interested Very Happy

I think many who posted before are gone because they don't see any future for that Great War game that was coming out. I think you got alot of people asking but when delay after delay happens they just drift off.

I personally was holding out for another revision to the East & West rules.
But the public appetite shifted to TGW, and then to Crucible. So, I was kinda left in the dust. The message board took a hit to it's traffic with all the spam wars and switching servers and such. Sigh.
